When Writing ISN'T An Option

For about seven years now, I've been pretty good about getting on the "You Can Do It" horse and gave myself absolutely NO excuses on why I couldn't write. However, in the last month, as most of you already know, my writing has gone from okey-dokey to slow to nill. These things happen and sometimes, they happen when you least expect it, or when you wish they wouldn't - like during MarNoWriMo which I SUCKED at, btw - or...well, they happen. The thing to do when this happens is NOT to get frustrated. Do NOT get frustrated. Do NOT think you're less of a writer. Just do what you have to and then find a time and place when you can fit it back into your schedule again.

  1. Great advice Frankie! I had the same problem this month but I at least made it half way to my goal - which is better than nothing.

Often times I have to say "One sentence is better than nothing" if that is all I can get on the paper!

  2. When I was writing my novel and I got like that it used to make me angry. The more I tried and failed, the more angry with myself I would get. You're right, just step away. You have no reason to feel bad. I've never been one to force myself to write, and I refuse to beat myself up about it too.

  3. Very true. I managed to write well this month but last year's nanowrimo I can't even claim to have taken part due to lack of words. Sometimes writing doesn't happen, but it's okay.

  4. Frankie - life has a funny way of asserting its importance now and then, and you just need to set aside the writing aspect for a little while to focus on what's most important.

  6. I sometimes go for weeks barely writing a thing, and then all I can do is write. It's the ebb and flow. I've gotten used to it.
