As Kurt Would Say, "We're Blagging It"
I really don't much of anything to talk about. Not really. We're heavy into MarNoWriMo. I'm 1/4 of the way through with the book and my word goal for the month. I have 1500 more words to write tonight since my lunch hour was really only about 20 minutes at 10 minute intervals. That's one of the hazards of writing at my desk. Tomorrow, I'm taking my Netbook. Maybe if they see the Netbook, they'll know, it's my personal time.
*thinking*
Noooo. Probably not, but then again, I've trained them into knowing I rarely take a lunch, so it's my own dang fault.
A lot's happened on the non-writing stage of my life right now. Isn't it amazing how the non-writing part of life always affects our writing life? I mean, we could blog all day long about the benefits of writing and how best to write and what to do after you've written, but at the end of the day, how much of your time was spent in writing-type activities and how much of it was spent living the hassles (and sometimes joys) of life?
Hmmm...
The good news! I got a promotion at work! I love my job. I really do! Guys, if you need a career, go into construction. Yes, it's dirty. Yes, it's hard, but holy HADES, it's rewarding. I love, love, looooooooove it!
Okay, yes, I'm incredibly happy I received some sort of recognition and I'm still on the high of all that. Shush. But it's more than that. This is the longest I've been with one company. I tripped into the position, really. I have no idea how I even landed the job in the first frelling place. I applied as a CAD operator (which is another cool way to get into construction without getting dirty). I don't know. But these guys, they're...they're like my family.
How many hours do we spend at work? *counting* Short day, 10. Long day, 12-14.
How many hours do we spend at home? I mean, AWAKE and at home. *thinking and doing math in head* Um, about 2-3 hours.
Can you imagine if you hated your job? If your job sucked, your entire outlook on life in general would suck.
I'm really happy with my job. I'm glad I somehow got it. I'm happy to be working with the people I do work with. I'm ecstatic that I discovered my boss' humor! LMAO! I'm eager to start working with my new boss and my new team, discovering new people. I'm glad I get my boss' boss's humor. Few do. LOL!
Honestly, I think my writing is GOOD because I found happiness in the biggest part of my life. My job.
What about you? What do you do? And how well do you like it?

haha!! I've worked in the construction industry my whole life. 27 years! I HATE MY JOB SO MUCH! I'm a carpenter by trade. It sucks! It's one of the worst jobs in the world. When I was at school everyone told me to get a trade behind me and I would be sorted for the rest of my life, so I did. Now I'm poor, I have suffered the most horrific injuries. I've nearly died on at least five separate occasions. I have strived for years to find a job I would love. I want to work with children, that would be my dream job, but it's too late for me. I'm too old now to do anything else.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Frankie. It must be so awesome to get paid to do something you really love doing, because when you hate your job as much as me, every day is like a living nightmare. Maybe I should start writing horror books? haha!!
I stay at home raising my son. I used to work in manufacturing and while it was really hard work, deep down I loved it. I love working with my hands and seeing something I created come off the line. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky though, I get to stay at home with my little man because my husband makes enough money to support us. It is really hard sometimes though as I don't "clock out" or "take vacation" - it's a 24 hour a day, without breaks so called job - but - I wouldn't trade it for anything.
You're like me, you write during your lunch hour. That's the only time I can really focus on writing. Lunch time, and after 10:00 p.m. when kids are sleeping.
ReplyDeleteI work in a small office with only three employees. I'm in front of a computer all day, which allows me to check the forum posts repeatedly throughout the day, when it gets quiet at work. :) Yup! I love my job! And the best perk? It's less than a ten-minute drive from my home. Traffic time.
Aw, Kurt, Electrician! Electrician! That's the coolest trade you could pick. LOL! I'm soooo sorry you hate your job.
ReplyDeleteHarley, there are times I wish I could have stayed at home with my kids. However, I couldn't so I'm glad I have a job I can say I like--well most days. Today, not so much. Ooooooooooooohhhhhhh! Some. People! ARGH!
Annie, *fist bump* We're the Lunch Crew! LMAO!
Frankie
lol...Thanks :) It's not all bad, I went for an interview today for a new job as a gardener of all things, on a massive estate. I told the bloke I had absolutely no experience, and he thanked me for my honesty and asked me if I'd like to come up and have a chat with him anyway. He told me I would be working on my own all day in total solitude, and how did I feel about that. I nearly kissed him haha!! I pictured myself sitting in this beautiful setting banging out chapters like there's no tomorrow...lol...
ReplyDeleteI've been a paid IT geek for over twenty years. I've been managing other software developers for 14-15 of those years, while still "coding" when I can. Coding is what we IT people say instead of "writing software". Do I love it? Sadly, no. I used to. Now, I like it well enough. But I love the people I work most closely with, and it's stable, which is a lot to say in this economy. 9/11 shook things up for me professionally, so I'm glad to be employed.
ReplyDeleteI write at night and on weekends, but have no greater wish than to make that my occupation. I've got a long way to go before that will become a reality.
